Photos

Photos may seem like a weird way of learning Irish . . . but when those photos are pictures of Irish text used in Ireland, well, that's a whole new ballgame.

When looking at these photos, keep in mind that some of the older text—especially gravestones—uses seanchlós (the consonants with a dot on top to represent bh, dh, gh, mh, etc.): So looking at O'Connor's gravestone, for example, read it not as "Ó Concubair" but rather as "Ó Conchubhair". That sounds a lot more like O'Connor, doesn't it?

I've been to Ireland but twice, and these photos show some of the Irish language signage there. You can check out the gallery here.
